Dozens of soft pink colored “rosettes” comprising compressed rhombohedra or “discs” of Rhodochrosite are intergrown with beautiful white Quartz crystals and gently sprinkled atop contrasting black Sphalerite matrix to make this small cabinet display specimen a great representation of the material from this famous locality
Some attached dark reddish-brown Sphalerite on the reverse side of the piece can be seen
showing intense pink coloring
It was cut from a piece rough mined in the 1950s and brought back to the United States by Ed Swoboda
There's a very large amount of space between the top layer and the underlying Quartz crystals on the matrix
Spodumene (var: Kunzite)
(GEM floater crystal) Hugh Ford Dozens of soft pink coloredKunzite is the varietal name for the gemmy pink Spodumenes first found in San Diego County, California. They were given the name in 1903 in honor of the world famous mineralogist gemologist, George F. Kunz. Over 100 years later, specimens are still coming out, and some of the most iconic are those from the famous Oceanview Mine. This fantastic cabinet sized piece is a large, GEM quality, lustrous, eye catching, classic, pinkish lilac colored "floater"
